September 2008
Golan Levin will be participating in the OpenFrameworks Laboratory at the 2008 Ars Electronica Festival, in Linz, Austria, from September 4-9. Levin will also give a keynote presentation, an installation and a performance at The New Media Meeting, in Norrköping, Sweden, on September 20. Levin's work also appears in several ongoing exhibitions, including "Under Surveillance", at the Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin (through September 28); in "Licht Kunst Werke" at the Technorama Science Center, Winterthur, Switzerland (through July 2009); and at the Ars Electronica Center Museum of the Future, Linz (through September 2009).

Golan Levin's new interactive robotic work Double Taker (Snout) will premiere at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, in association with the Pittsburgh Biennial and Robot250, on July 18th, and will be exhibited there through mid-August. Levin's Opto-Isolator robot, created with Greg Baltus, appears in the Pittsburgh Biennial, also at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, through August 24th. A revised version of this artwork, Opto-Isolator II, appears in the Under Surveillance exhibition at the Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, through September 28th. Other works by Levin appear in Magic Moments, an exhibition at NetCultureSpace, Vienna, through August 25th; in a one-year exhibition entitled Licht Kunst Werke at the Technorama Science Center, Winterthur, Switzerland, starting July 4th; in the Summer Campaign at ELEMENTS Mall, atop Kowloon MTR Station in Tsim Sha Tsui district, Hong Kong, through August 28th; and in an exhibition of digital artworks from the collection of the ZKM, Update II, showing at the Kunstenplatform Zebrastraat in Ghent, Belgium, through July 6th.

Golan Levin's work appears in the Pittsburgh Biennial, at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, through August 24. His work also appears in a three-week public exhibition at the Centre Beaulieu in Nantes, France, through June 13; and in the "Under Surveillance" exhibition at the Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, starting June 29. Levin will also be conducting a one-week workshop in computational arts at the Shakerag Workshop Center, Sewanee, Tennessee, from June 21-28.

Golan Levin will make public presentations about his work on February 20th in the "Electronic and Emergent Media" panel at the CAA (College Art Association) conference in Dallas; on March 6th at the University of California at Santa Cruz, in a session jointly hosted by the Santa Cruz Digital Arts and New Media MFA program [DANM] and the Art, Technology and Culture Colloquium [ATC]; on March 7th in the HCI Seminar Series on People, Computers and Design at Stanford University; and on March 10th in the Art, Technology and Culture Colloquium at the UC Berkeley Center for New Media.

Levin will make public presentations about his work at Lotusphere 2008, IBM’s annual user group conference, in Orlando on January 21; in the Human Computer Interaction Lecture Series, Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on January 24; and in a panel presentation at the CAA (College Art Association) conference, Dallas Ballroom, Adam's Mark Hotel, in Dallas on February 20th.

Golan Levin's solo exhibition of new interactive artworks runs through January 12 at Bitforms gallery, New York City. Levin will be making public presentations about his work at Bitforms, on January 12; at Lotusphere 2008, IBM’s annual user group conference, in Orlando on January 21; and in the Human Computer Interaction Lecture Series, Department of Computer Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on January 24.

Golan Levin presents a solo exhibition of new interactive artworks at Bitforms gallery, New York City, running through January 12; he will give a public presentation at the gallery on January 12th. Levin will also give a public presentation of his work at the MIT Media Laboratory Colloquium Series, in Cambridge, on December 10th.
Golan Levin will have a solo exhibition at bitforms gallery, New York City, opening on November 29th and running through mid-January. Works by Levin also appear in Interactive Design Art and Technology, and at the Singapore Science Centre, Singapore from November 9 through January 1. In early December, Levin will give public lecture presentations at "The Entertainment Gathering," at the Getty Center, Los Angeles (December 3), and in the MIT Media Laboratory Colloquium Series, Cambridge, Massachusetts (December 10). Levin was recently appointed Courtesy Associate Professor by the School of Computer Science.
School of Art classwork by Damien Lopez, a junior Chemistry major, has been selected for inclusion in a show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Lopez's "History of Game Controllers", created last May as a final project for Golan Levin and Ben Fry's "Information Visualization" course, will appear in the upcoming exhibition Design and the Elastic Mind, on view at MoMA from February 19 to May 12, 2008.
October 2007
Golan Levin will co-curate the second annual IEEE Infovis Art Exhibition, in Sacramento, CA, from 27 October until November 1. Interactive projects by Levin will also appear at Shanghai eArts Festival, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, China, starting October 19th; in iDAT (Interactive Design Art and Technology), and at the Singapore Science Centre, Singapore, starting November 9th.

This month, Golan Levin's work appears in "Source Code", Eyebeam's 10th Anniversary Exhibition in New York; and in the "Alive Liquid Interactive Creative Expressive" exhibition at the Hangaram Design Museum at Seoul Art Center, in Korea. His work also currently appears in ongoing exhibitions at the Art Museum of Western Virginia, Roanoke; in the "Picture House" exhibition, Belsay Hall Castle, Newcastle, England; in the "Open Space" exhibition at the NTT InterCommunications Center (ICC), Tokyo; at the newly relocated Ars Electronica Museum in Linz, Austria; in the new "Cumulus" building of the Danfoss Universe Experience Park in Nordborg, Denmark; and in "Touched Design", at the Artgadgets Center in Eindhoven, Holland. On June 5th, his "Dumpster" project will be honored with this year's Webby Award for Net Art at the 11th Annual 11th Annual Webby Awards Gala in New York City.

Golan Levin's "Dumpster" project, commissioned by the Whitney Artport and the Tate Online, has been recognized with the 2007 Webby Award for Net Art. This month, Levin's projects appear in the "Picture House" exhibition at the Belsay Hall Castle and Gardens, in Newcastle, England (opening May 4th); in the opening exhibition of the new Danfoss Universe Experience Park in Nordborg, Denmark (opening May 5th); and in "Touched Design", at the Artgadgets Center in Eindhoven, Holland (opening May 2nd).

Golan Levin's work appears in "Art and the Mobile Phone" at the Contemporary Museum, Baltimore (through April 22), and in the "Open Space" exhibition at the NTT InterCommunications Center (ICC) in Tokyo (starting April 18). Levin will also participate as a Jury Member for the Austrian Prix Ars Electronica competition in its new Hybrid Art category.

Projects by Golan Levin currently appear in "The Dating Show" exhibition, Gallery at 3rd Ward, Brooklyn, NYC (through March 23rd); in "Art and the Mobile Phone" at the Contemporary Museum, Baltimore (through April 22); and in a one-year installation at the Art Museum of Western Virginia, in Roanoke (through February 2008). In April, Levin will present a public lecture in McConomy Auditorium as a part of the CMU School of Art Lecture Series (on April 3rd); participate as a Jury Member for the Austrian Prix Ars Electronica competition in its new Hybrid Art category; and install an interactive software artwork in the one-year "Open Space" exhibition at the NTT InterCommunications Center (ICC) in Tokyo, Japan.

Golan Levin will perform "Ursonography", an audiovisual collaboration with voice artist Jaap Blonk, in two Belgian festivals: at "The Game is Up!" Festival, in Ghent, on February 16; and at the Artefact Festival, at the STUK Kunstencentrum in Leuven, on February 18. While in Belgium, Levin will also give an artist's presentaion at the Vooruit Center, Ghent, on February 15th. This month, Levin also presents interactive artworks in "The Dating Show" exhibition, Gallery at 3rd Ward, Brooklyn, NYC (open from February 9th until March 23rd), and in a one-year installation at the
